The Pay Phone Project

Nearly two decades into the twenty-first century, pay phones  are something of an oddity. Phone booths an even more rare variant. However, there are more of them around than one might expect, at least here in Japan. In this ongoing project, I document the presence of pay phones in our everyday world and explore the presence of something many people assume to be absent. 

 

Shanghai Environment

For just over one year, Shanghai was my home. It was where I slept every night, bought and cooked my food, and went for many of the long, meandering walks that have long been a signature part of my daily life. This body of work explores the process of trying to find one's place in an intensely impersonal urban environment through a careful examination and reevaluation of the space through which one navigates.
